NEURA and TUM have opened a robot gym in Munich. The new humanoid is being prepared for series production, not shipping from it

The TUM RoboGym, at LabCampus by Munich Airport, is more than 2,300 square metres. NEURA used the opening on 22 October to show 4NE1 Gen 4, which it says is 20 percent lighter, with a textile skin and better hands, and already running in the gym. The company’s own line is that series production is being prepared.

The short clip posted with the note. A demonstration, not a record of a production shift.

NEURA Robotics and the Technical University of Munich opened the TUM RoboGym on 22 October, at LabCampus near Munich Airport. NEURA says the centre is more than 2,300 square metres and was built with TUM’s Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence. TUM’s own note calls it a living lab, the first site in a planned network of NEURA gyms, where humanoid and other robots are to train for applications under realistic conditions. The opening is a building and a partnership. It is not, by itself, a count of tasks a robot has finished for a paying customer.

The machine shown for the occasion is 4NE1 Gen 4. NEURA says it is slimmer than the previous one, 20 percent lighter, with a black textile skin and hands that grip more accurately, and that it runs on Neuron AI, the company’s perception-language-action model. It also says the robot is already in operation at the Munich gym and at NEURA’s own gyms, and that it appeared at Nvidia’s GTC in Berlin. “In operation” at a training centre is a different sentence from a shift in a factory. The model, the memory and the force sensing are the company’s description of the software. No success rate, no hours, and no price were published.

Prepared is not produced

The sentence that matters is the one NEURA wrote about manufacturing: “4NE1 Gen 4 is being prepared for series production.” Prepared is a plan. A series line would be a rate, a factory and a robot a customer can order. None of those is in the note. A skill learned in the gym is meant, later, to be pushed to other robots on the company’s network. That transfer is described as a result of the architecture. It is not a log of a fleet that has already received one.

What opened on Wednesday is a place where a university and a company can collect the kind of data a humanoid cannot invent: a real room, a real grip, a person showing the motion. That is the useful part. The production claim is still in the future tense.
