Grok Bot can place a phone call, in a version that is still a prerelease

Musk said on 25 October that the bot can call a person or a business, make a request, take notes and send a summary. The Grok account then said the feature is in version 0.77, which is still rolling out as a prerelease. The public build it named was 0.75.5. A live transcript and a hold are part of that description. A latency, and a claim that the feature is on every phone, are not.

On 25 October Elon Musk wrote that Grok Bot can call someone, or a business, on a user’s behalf, make a request, take notes on the answer and send a summary. The Grok account, replying to a person whose bot would not dial, was more precise about the software. It said to open the app and update to version 0.77, which was still rolling out as a prerelease, and that the public version was 0.75.5. In that build, it said, the bot places the call, handles holds, keypresses and transfers, shows a live transcript, takes notes and sends a summary. No extra connector is required.

That is a phone call made by software, which is a different product from a chatbot that recites a number. It is also a build that the company’s own account says has not finished rolling out. A feature in a prerelease is not a feature a reader can assume is on their phone this afternoon. The account did not publish a latency, a success rate, or a list of the phone systems it has been through. A claim that the gap between a person and the agent has closed is not in either post.

A changelog is not a release note

A card circulating with the news, credited to another account, lists further changes spotted by comparing prerelease builds: a calls panel, a walkthrough for joining a Tailscale network, payments settings that are present but off by default. The card itself says the items may or may not be there when the build ships to the public. A difference between two test builds is a clue. It is not a promise, and it is not xAI’s release note. The note that exists is the shorter one. The bot can be told whom to dial and what to ask. The version that does it is still on its way out.
